Family Vacation

In November, the family came down to Visit! We did a lot of traveling. Here are some highlights...



Panama City
First we spent some time in the City. Casco Viejo (the old town) as well as the Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal.



Coiba
Next, we went to Coiba, an island off the coast in the Pacific that is a national park. The only things on the island are small cabins provided by the environmental agency, complete with bathrooms, kitchens and a small exhibit. The island is also home to an old prison. The last prisoner was released in 2009 but the buildings have already begun to deteriorate. We had small islands all to ourselves and got to swim with all kinds of fish, even some sharks!






Boquete
Then for a change of pace and scenery, we headed up to the mountains of Chiriqui. Here, in the town of Boquete we took it easy, went on a coffee tour and took advantage of the cool weather.






Bahia Ballena
Then, mom and I went to my village. She assembled a couple of sewing machines for the women there to make clothes.





Barro Colorado
Our last adventure was Barro Colorado, which is an island in the middle of the canal. There is a Smithsonian research center there dedicated to studying the plants and animals. In fact, there are more different types of plants on the little island then all of Europe. We had a guide and got to see monkeys, parrots and a lot of plants.





So that pretty much wraps it up! A great vacation and so nice to see the family.
